Mrs. Dorothy Jackson Young
Episcopal Supervisor, 11th Episcopal District

Mrs. Dorothy Jackson Young is the devoted wife of Bishop McKinley Young, the 109th elected and consecrated Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In July 2004 Bishop Young was named as the Presiding Prelate of the Eleventh Episcopal District, Florida and the Bahamas.

The have four daughters, Karyn who holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Deana Young-McAllister, a master’s level educator, Andrea Young Jones, Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Stephanie Lynn who is a Mass Media Major at Hampton University, Hampton, VA.

Mrs. Young is a graduate of Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing in Boston. She has worked as a Registered Professional Nurse in Massachusetts, Illinois and Georgia. In May 2002, Mrs. Young received The Doctor of Humane Letters for her work in the Church and Community from Paul Quinn College, Dallas, TX. With the support of her family, Mrs. Young led the members of the Tenth District in the hosting of the 15th Quadrennial Convention of the Women’s Missionary Society, July 2003 in Dallas, TX.

From 1992 to 1996 Mrs. Young lived in Cape Town, Republic of South Africa and served as the Episcopal Supervisor of the Fifteenth Episcopal District. She has worked actively in organizations that support global health and the eradication of worldwide hunger; she provided leadership for an International Campaign for the debt liquidation of Impoverished Nations. She has traveled extensively to Angola, Costa Rica, Brazil, Burkina Paso, Mali, Senegal, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
