Stan McKenzie is the spouse of Bishop Vashti Murphy
Mckenzie, the first female Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal
Church. As a team they serve the 13th Episcopal District states
of Tennessee and Kentucky.
Stan McKenzie, a graduate of New York University,
is a former professional basketball in the NBA 30 yeas ago. He played
with the Phoenix Suns, Portland Trailblazers and Houston Rockets.
He championed the fast break years ago with the abiding principle,
to beat the competition down the court to gain scoring advantage.
McKenzie still holds the record of “Most Consecutive Free
Throw Shooter”—beating basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain.
After retiring from the NBA, he entered the field
of human resources. He has more than two decades of experience in
personnel services, including work with the U.S. government managing
contracts and training and overseeing a multi-million dollar budget.
The team that masters and executes the fast break
wins the game. The fast break has been key as he served African
Methodism in the Eighteenth District in Southwest Africa covering
the countries of Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland and Mozambique where
he instituted an entrepreneur program to teach youth and young adults
good business skills to help them gain “scoring” advantage
over the competition for the few available jobs in poor economic
environments.
McKenzie is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity. Inc. A devoted family man. He and his wife have three
young adult children.
