Born and raised in Los Angeles,
California, December 29, 1948 to parents Henry and Joann Guidry
of Jennings, Louisiana. Supervisor Don is married to Bishop Carolyn
Tyler Guidry, Presiding Prelate of the Sixteenth Episcopal District
which includes Suriname-Guyana, Windward Islands, Virgin Islands,
Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cuba and London. They share family
enrichment through their twelve grandchildren.
Supervisor Don is a graduate of Los Angeles Harbor
College and the University of California at Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s
degree in World History and Political Science. He taught middle
school mathematics for one year prior to embarking on a 10-year
career as a flight attendant. He flew the islands of the South Pacific
for four years.
Don worked for the American Red Cross as the International
Representative for the Greater Los Angeles Chapter, reuniting families
separated by wars and natural disasters. He is also Red Cross trained
and certified in Disaster Services and sees the opportunity to assist
the AME Church in developing a disaster recovery program for those
islands affected by hurricanes and natural disasters. His expertise
was fully utilized due to major hurricanes in the District.
Supervisor Don is recently retired from the
United States Army Reserve with thirty-two years of service in the
areas of training, personnel, and administration. He has been affiliated
with the WMS as an associate member for the past eight years and
involved at First AME Church, Los Angeles. |
