Mother Barbara J. Chappelle
Episcopal Supervisor, Twelfth Episcopal District

Mother Barbara J. Chappelle has been a high school educator for over 30 years in teaching English, Spanish and Special Education.

Mother Chappelle is married to the Presiding Prelate of the 12th Episcopal District, Bishop Richard Allen Chappelle, Sr. They serve Oklahoma and Arkansas. Since 1988 Mother Chappelle has also served in the 17th, 18th, 8th Districts.

As a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, this missionary has an extensive travel profile, including in Africa--Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Republic of South Africa and Nairobi, Kenya; in Europe- Long, England, Amsterdam, Holland, Rome, Italy, Belgium, Frankfort, Germany, Singapore, Indonesia, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Hong Kong, Thailand.

Her accomplishments include, but are not limited to, having instituted programs by which personal monetary stipends were given to mission preachers during each Annual Conference; starting programs wherein annually two scholarships were awarded to worthy high school seniors from each of the Annual Conferences; providing the Missionary Night-in-White at each Annual Conference food i.e. maize, fresh vegetables, canned goods for those in need.

As a motivational force Mother Chappelle has encouraged members of the Women’s Missionary Society and the Young People’s Department to maximize their potential for the betterment of humankind. She is one of the founding Episcopal Supervisors of the Joint Institute for Ministers (J.I.M.) and Spouses of the 8th, 10th, 12th and 13th Episcopal District and CONN-M-SWAWO, Plus P.K’s.
